Invoice & Estimate Generator (Japanese Qualified Invoice, PDF)
A tool for sole proprietors and freelancers to create invoices, estimates, delivery notes, and receipts that meet Japan's qualified invoice (インボイス) requirements, right in the browser, and save them as PDF. It totals amounts and consumption tax by rate, supports withholding tax and templates, and keeps your data only on your device — nothing is sent to a server. Documents are generated in Japanese.

How to use
- Choose the document type (invoice, estimate, delivery note, or receipt) with the buttons at the top.
- Enter the document details, recipient, and issuer. For a qualified invoice, enter the registration number (T + 13 digits). "Auto number" assigns numbers like INV-2026-001.
- Enter each line item's name, quantity, unit, unit price, and tax rate. Choose tax-excluded or tax-included entry and the rounding method; reduced-rate (8%) items are marked with "※" automatically. Enter discounts as negative unit prices.
- Check the result in the A4 preview, make sure there are no warnings under "Required details", and click "Download PDF".
- Save frequently used issuer details, recipients, and items with "Save as template". You can also export and import JSON.
About this tool
The Invoice & Estimate Generator creates documents that meet the requirements of Japan's qualified invoice system (インボイス制度), introduced in October 2023. It can include the issuer's name and registration number, the transaction date, the transaction details (including which items are reduced-rate), the amounts totaled by tax rate with the applicable rates, the consumption tax for each rate, and the recipient.
Following the system's rules, consumption tax is rounded only once per tax rate per document, using round down, round half up, or round up. Amounts are calculated with integers to avoid floating-point errors. Withholding tax on fees (10.21% up to ¥1,000,000 and 20.42% above) can also be deducted.
PDFs embed only the characters used from a Japanese font (Noto Sans JP, SIL Open Font License), so text displays correctly everywhere. The preview and the PDF are drawn from the same layout, so they always match. Your entries and templates are stored only in this browser. This tool only assists with document creation; consult a tax accountant for tax and legal decisions.
Frequently asked questions
How is consumption tax rounded?
Following the qualified invoice rules, tax is rounded once on the total for each tax rate (10% and 8%) across the whole document, not per line item. You can choose round down, round half up, or round up.
How is withholding tax calculated?
It's calculated on the pre-tax total: 10.21% on the portion up to ¥1,000,000 and 20.42% on the portion above, with fractions of a yen dropped. This follows the rule that the pre-tax amount may be used when consumption tax is clearly stated separately.
Where is my data stored?
Only in this browser (localStorage); nothing is sent to a server. To use it on another device, export JSON and import it there. Clearing your browser data also removes what you saved.
Can I use the documents as is?
The tool checks the required details, but it only assists with creating documents. Consult a tax accountant or other professional about your transactions and their tax treatment.
